PURPOSE

 

The project aims to develop a Multi-Vehicle Management System (MVMS) for drones, addressing the current limitations of existing systems, which often focus on single-drone management. Current ground stations are reliable but typically manage fleets as extensions of individual drones, lacking efficiency in multi-drone coordination.

This project seeks to create a ground station that supports native multi-vehicle control, enabling streamlined management, monitoring, and decision-making for numerous UAVs. By incorporating tools like Flight Management Systems and Multi-Drone Coordination modules, and considering cloud-based architecture, the project will enhance efficiency in drone operations, including delivery, surveillance, and search-and-rescue missions.

CENTRAL is co-funded by the PNRR through the MOST Programme (Sustainable Mobility Center - CENTRO NAZIONALE PER LA MOBILITA' SOSTENIBILE), focusing on advancing modern, sustainable, and inclusive mobility solutions. Activities include identifying use cases for multi-drone systems, analyzing state-of-the-art technologies, and addressing mission requirements in areas like drone delivery, SAR, and surveillance.

The project will also conduct regulatory analysis to align with EASA certification, design and implement a multi-aircraft Ground Station prototype, and develop specialized management modules. The final deliverable will be a detailed report validating the system's capabilities and potential industrial applications.

OBJECTIVES

 

The project addresses current limitations in drone management by creating a system that supports efficient multi-vehicle coordination, overcoming the inefficiencies of single-drone-focused ground stations.

1. Develop a Multi-Vehicle Management System (MVMS)

2. Ensure Regulatory Compliance and Prototype Validation

Identify and study specific use cases for multi-drone systems, such as drone delivery and SAR, to tailor the system to real-world applications and ensure it meets practical mission requirements.

4. Promote Sustainable Mobility Solutions

Contribute to sustainable mobility by developing innovative drone management systems that align with the goals of the MOST Programme

Sebbene digital twin aeroportuali siano stati sviluppati per altri aeroporti , le finalità di questo progetto sono uniche nel raccogliere e fondere informazioni provenienti da molteplici sensori, incluse le fonti video, in un’unica rappresentazione coerente multimodale e utilizzare questo flusso dati anche per alimentare un simulatore realistico delle operazioni aeroportuali.

Lo scopo è altamente rilevante poiché permetterà di elevare gli standard di efficienza e di sicurezza dell’aeroporto e fornirà un benchmark a livello nazionale ed internazionale di quanto realizzabile con le ultime e più innovative tecniche digitali.
